General Secretary and Commander-in-chief Xi Jinping is set to continue the “pro-Russian” policy of his predecessor, Hu Jintao, as the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leadership becomes more nervous than ever over Washington’s perceived “anti-China containment policy.”

While meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev in Beijing on Jan. 8, Xi said that “China-Russian ties will receive priority treatment” in the country’s foreign relations. …

Xi also called on both countries to “strengthen mutual political support and coordination in international and regional affairs so as to create a peaceful, secure and stable external environment for their development and revitalization.”Following Hu’s lead, Xi called China’s relations with Russia a “bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination.”
